Liver cirrhosis is the late stage of fibrosis of liver. This may be due to repeated and sustained injury of liver, alcohol abuse or chronic hepatitis. Poor appetite, sick feeling, weight loss, jaundice and muscle atrophy are common symptoms of this disease. It can be diagnosed by Liver function test, prothrombin time test, Ultra sound Sonography (USG) of abdomen and Doppler study of portal vein.
In advanced cases of cirrhosis, when the liver ceases to function, a liver transplant may be the only treatment option.
